I <3 ThinkGeek

I had the greatest idea today! Its Halloween, so where’s my Zombie Timmy?! I would totally buy it without any second thought, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I went to ThinkGeek to make sure I wasn’t missing anything, and I wasn’t. So I saw the awesome “live chat” button on top of the page and clicked it. I didn’t feel like being professional or anything like that. Hopefully I didn’t come off as a complete idiot.
Please wait for a site operator to respond. You are now chatting with ‘Tim S’
Tim S: Hello, how can I help you?
Dylan: I want a zombie timmy
Dylan: You guys should make one for next year
Dylan: wouldnt that be awesome?
Tim S: I will certainly bring the request up
Dylan: Thank you. but dont you agree that would be awesome?
Tim S: I do yes
Dylan: Okay. Awesome. I’m gonna go back to shopping now. Have a nice day.
I got a chuckle out of it for some reason. This is why I <3 ThinkGeek. Not to mention their awesome products and the fact that they HAVE a live chat.
Office 2010 Public Beta Coming In November
Posted by Dilpickle1 in programs on October 23, 2009
Among the invite only programs and webservices that I got invited into in 2009 was Office 2010. I’m internet schooled so you can imagine how much I use it. Today, I got an email saying that in November, Office 2010 beta will be going public beta. Here’s proof.
Hello Dylan,
Thank you for continuing to utilize, evaluate and provide feedback on the Microsoft Office 2010 Technical Preview.
We wanted to notify you the Office 2010 Beta will be available for you to download next month (November 2009).
The Beta release of Office 2010 marks the end of the Technical Preview program you currently belong to. We will release the Beta on public download sites, where you can download and install a newer build of Office 2010 client software. At that time, you will also get your first look at the exciting new features we have added to server products such as SharePoint.
What this means to you as a Technical Preview Program participant is that the Office 2010 Connect site that you have been using will essentially be shut down and you will be directed to the Beta site (location to be announced) for Beta downloads, product information, links to forums, and more. We will provide you with links to the new Beta site on the current Office 2010 Connect site, but product downloads, articles, product information, and newsgroups currently found there will no longer be available on Connect.
In the weeks between now and the release of Beta, you can still access all of the Technical Preview materials on the Office 2010 Connect site.
A reminder, you can access connect at http://connect.microsoft.com/office.
You can also access product news and updates at http://www.microsoft.com/office/2010/.
Thank you for your participation!
The Microsoft Office 2010 Team
Dear Zune.

You offer the zune pass, expecting people to use it. With the 3.1 software, There wasn’t really enough to make it worth it for me. Then you gave us 4.0, along with SmartDJ and listen from any browser. I thought I’d go ahead and try it for a month. Nothing like SmartDJ that also includes the marketplace songs, right? I thought so.
Things were going well, until last night. I wanted some 70’s progressive rock, and already owning Rush’s entire discography, I wanted me some “Yes“. I realized that the album “fragile” was only 11 songs (the remastered version). I have 1200 spare points, plus i had 8 credits from my Zune Pass. I started buying the first four songs off the album, (I didnt really think it would mess up…really) and then they gave an error, Code C00D1197. Saying it cant play it because its not on my computer or something stupid, and totally not related to the problem. So I googled for a bit (it was like 2am) and posted on forums.zune.net (here). Talking to some other members of zune nation, on twitter, it came clear that I would have to call tech support. Having a stutter, talking on the phone makes me stutter really bad, to where I cannot get anything out. So calling is pretty much out of the question, I think. I guess i’ll just have to live without the credits unless something turns up that I can get help online. Hopefully that is possible, or MS just lost a Zune Pass subscriber.
If anyone reads this and is capable of helping me, contact me on twitter (@Dilpickle1) or comment on this post.
Thank you,
-Dil
P.S. – I just want my credits back, but a extra month of the subscription would be nice too
AVG 9.0 Free – Now with a helping of adware?
Posted by Dilpickle1 in programs on October 16, 2009
Doesn’t everyone love when their programs update? I sure do. Today, I installed AVG 9.0. My first impression was not good.
First, I downloaded the CNet installer. Went normally, installed fine. When it installed, I figured i’d do a full scan. So I went to “computer scanner” and clicked “full scan”… It did…nothing. So I uninstalled, and re-downloaded the install file straight from the AVG website instead of cnet. Once again it installed fine, and it scans fine. But my eyebrows raised at this:

I didn’t see anywhere as i was going through the steps that would require files from a 3rd party. Why would they install something from a 3rd party? Could AVG 9 have adware? If i’m missing something obvious, Let me know in the comments. If i’m not missing anything, and its really adware, feel free to talk about it here too.
Update: It was brought to my attention that some people think that I may have forgot to de-select the toolbar. I assure you that I made sure i did not select it.
Update 2: “There’s also a new identity-theft assistance service, available for free and provided by a third party.”

A letter from Claudio…

Some of you may know, That when i’m not annoying people with my zune talk, I’m annoying people with coheed and cambria talk. and today, this is what interests me.
Hello everyone,..
With the debut of Kill Audio this week, a new Coheed album in the works, PFI slowly brewing and the end of the year quickly approaching, I wanted to take a second to address Evil Inks other running projects and things you have been asking about.
The second TAW Trade will be coming out in December through Image comics. We wanted to get it out for you guys sooner, but it seems the comic world has it’s own calendar sometimes. Nevertheless, there will be some cool extras in it that we will start to unveil when we get a little closer to release. Also, keep in mind that the birth of Kill Audio does not mean for a second that The Amory Wars saga has been shelved or forgotten. In fact, I’ve been hard at work on a brand new TAW project for almost a year. All we can say now is it’s going to be unlike anything Evil Ink has done yet and we think you’ll be as excited as I am about it. We’ll give you more info around Christmas time.
For the time being, I hope you enjoy Kill Audio when he arrives at your local comic shop tomorrow and let his little troll ass and gang of degenerates into your hearts. I think you’ll find the story will keep you on your toes and keep an eye out for Mr. Sheldon’s Coheed and TAW easter eggs scattered throughout. There will plenty of catching up with your friendly Amory Wars characters in December and much more to come.
Over and Out-Claudio
My god I cannot wait, though I cannot afford Kill Audio right now, (actually I can, but i cannot stomach spending 10 bucks on a comic that will just sit around after I read it) I will be reading everywhere, even Cobalt and Calcium (but shhhh, I’m supposed to be IP blocked) about all the neat stuff that Claudio, and the rest of Coheed have shoved up their sleeves. I personally cannot wait for the new Prize Fighter Inferno tracks to be posted on the internet, and hopefully Coheed will get them put on the Zune Marketplace so I can enjoy them everywhere i go! *wink-wink*
.
Besides new PFI from Claudio, I also am oh-so anxious for new Coheed, and Mike’s rumored side-project. There’s not really too much information about those two albums, but i’m waiting for an announcement to be made by the end of the year! Maybe a new Coheed single for christmas? Oh, Now i’m getting excited
Enough of me blabbering.
Are YOU one among the fence? Feel free to comment.
